We found ourselves once again in Phuket, but this time we were looking for a special and somewhat less well-known place to stay. We got a little fed up with popular luxury hotels where dress-to-impress travellers check-in to take photos of them in the “famous” pool villas.
Luckily we came across this hidden gem in a prestigious private estate in West Phuket: Villa Baan Phu Prana private luxury boutique villa.
Villa Baan Phu Prana is a personalised boutique private villa situated on the hillside of Surin Beach. The property comprises of 7 villas and can sleep up to 16 guests (so yes, it is very private!). Upon arrival wewere directed to their communal living area, which we believed was equivalent to a hotel lobby–but it felt much more cozy and exclusive.
Right outside lies the beautiful infinity pool with a panoramic view of Surin, Bangtao and the West Coast of Phuket. We made a quick peak outside before going to settle-in in our room.
All rooms have sea view, private balconies and range from 30 to 95 square metres in size. All villas are furnished and finished with a nice touch. We stayed in their 50 sq.m. Deluxe suite which had a private outdoor jacuzzi, warm Makah wood floors as well as beautiful big, long curtains made of the world-famous Jim Thompson’s Thai Silk.
We wanted to make sure we didn’t miss the sunset, so we made my way up to the rooftop and took the advantage of the infinity pool (and of course, bar). The view of the endless sky and ocean was quite breath-taking. It was the first time in months we felt completely calm and relaxed. It also really felt like we had the whole place to ourselves
And it didn’t get any less pretty once the sun has gone down.
When we checked-in, the head-chef came up to introduced himself to us and asked what we felt like for dinner. They bought fresh ingredients almost daily and gave us options on how they could be cooked and seasoned. There were also indoor and outdoor seating areas. As much as we loved the look of the indoor area, we wanted to dine outside in the warm tropical breeze under the sky.
The hotel manager mentioned that, while most guests spend their evenings watching the sunset at this rooftop bar, the sunrise here is second to none. I then took a few more shots of this beautiful property before heading to bed early, aiming to be back here again in time for the sunrise.
Fast forwarding to the next morning, while the others were snoozing still, I found myself in awe staring at this glorious golden sky with its reflection on the pool surface.
Not long after, the rest were up and we were ready to stuff our tummies. While the villa is only 100m. away from restaurants and cafes, we decided to go for a light breakfast by the pool (again!). I can never say no to fresh butter croissant and good quality cheese in the morning!
Before we checked-out, the Villa’s owner Catherine Morel came over to spend some time with us. Catherine is originally from Belgian and had moved to Thailand since 2004. Having travelled to many amazing places around the world, she spent years crafting a mix of Asian and Western art, resulting in this unique and stunning masterpiece “Villa Baan Phu Prana”. This is where her heart feels at home.
Catherine pointed out that the villa also offered a Vetruvian Detox Health Programme for guests who want to have a complete relax and reboot experience. Unfortunately we had to leave on the day, but I made a quick visit of their spa.
Villa Baan Phu Prana is definitely one of my most favourite places to stay in years. If anyone is travelling or Phuket and wish to stay away from the crown and have a bit of privacy (with a great infinity pool view!), I highly recommend this villa. Like Ms. Catherine says:
” Our guests who stay in Villa Baan Phu Prana are discerning travellers who value quality service and are receptive to new ideas and emerging trends. To ensure the utmost in customer satisfaction, and a memorable holiday experience, this portfolio is modeled on providing an exclusive property which is enhanced by our unique personal approach to service. Welcome to the finest selection of a private luxury villa on the tropical Thai island of Phuket”
