Hong Kong is widely known as a busy, vibrant and upbeat hub of Asia. Usually when I visit, I would pick a hotel right in the centre of the hustle and bustle of the city near “the escalator”. However, this time I decided to break the habit and went for a very new and unique hotel in a less central area: TUVE Hong Kong.
Located in Causeway Bay, TUVE is said to be Hong Kong’s newest, stylish and “hippest” 4* boutique hotel. The raw cutting edge design not only features bare concrete and metal bars painted in black (as one would guess) but also oxidised iron here and there.
RICE FORCE
For thousands of years, rice has been the wellspring of life in the Far East in many aspects other than dietary. Long before soap was invented, the Japanese used cloths filled with rice bran to wash themselves and also soak themselves in rice bran-infused baths. The is a myth that says every single rice grain is home to seven gods and thus rice has been considered precious.
A few weeks ago I was introduced by a friend to a premium Japanese skincare brand called RICE FORCE which boasts its “nature’s energy” from rice. As am all about organic and natural products and don’t always stick to the usual mainstream brands, I was intrigued to find out more.
This was my excuse: it was my birthday and hence I could spoil myself with something nice–something special. Whale’s Belly did not fail to impress before and so we had always intended to come back. My parents and I arrived at noon and were greeted by very attentive staff with big welcoming smiles on their faces.
A young and charming waiter seated us, carefully placed the napkins on our laps and handed to us the menus. He informed us that the dishes were carefully crafted by their Executive Chef Mr. Mai Apirawit whom–after having collaborated with a number of 3 Michelin star chefs in restaurants around the world–was named “The Winner of IRON CHEF, Thailand 2014”, by IROHA CHEF Thailand TV program.
